Ghosts of Roi-Namur
Posted 1/1/2008
The title is kind of a tease because I only know one Roi-Namur ghost story. There was a huge battle fought on Roi back during WWII. There were quite a few Japanese soldiers and a few American soldiers who lost their lives during the battle. Some of the more notable sites are signposted. You would think that with that many guys giving up the ghost some of the ghosts that got gave up would still be hanging around. So if you know of any good ghost stories or even some bad stories about ghosts on Roi or Enniburr please send them to me and I will add them to this blog.
OK here is my Roi ghost story. My friend whom I will call Greg to protect his identity and this isn’t the Greg that I was friends with on Roi but a fictitious Greg. Alright, alright let’s change his name to Muhammad because although it is probably the most popular name on earth there were no Muhammad’s on Roi at the time I lived there. So Muhammad was jogging down past the beach where the brave US Marines landed on the lagoon side of the island when he felt an unexplainable chill. It went away soon after he ran past the beach. That’s it. Not much I know so please send me your stories.

O.K. it was my father in ‘73 and ‘74 that worked on Roi and he took my brother and I over there one time. We saw some half submerged tank and a shot up pillbox. Anyways, when we were back on Kwajalein my parents went out to a party, leaving us with our older sister(we were 11 and 9 at the time). My brother and I, as we lay on our bunk-beds still awake, very distinctly saw the shadow of a mid-sized man being cast on the wall , appearing to be projected from outside of our 2nd story window. Both of us, along with our older sister, were quite frightened. When our parents came home late that night they searched the home but no-one was found. I’m now a 45 year old English teacher in Georgia, yet I still remember this event very clearly, and have always felt that a ghost or spirit of some kind was involved. So thats my Roi ghost story, though it is a “once removed” tale as the actual apparition appeared on Kwajalein. |
